Sometimes bloodwork is necessary to help find a diagnosis for your feline friend. Reasons for running bloodwork on your cat would be to establish a health baseline test or to check for abnormalities or concerns. Cat bloodwork is often used to determine the health of the liver and kidneys. We have several different blood tests here at Broadway Vet. The blood test range on what the doctors is looking for in results. A small panel may include a small chemistry, cbc panel, blood clotting time, and electrolytes. A larger panel may include a larger chemistry, cbc panel, thyroid and urinalysis. Bloodwork can be used to help determine if you cat is ready to use anesthesia drugs for a surgery or dental procedure or it may help to determine why your cat is acting abnormal or sick. Blood tests are often recommended for senior cats (over 7 years old) to catch problems early before they become critical. A doctor may recommend testing for Feline leukemia and Feline Aids once yearly especially if you cat goes outside. Your cat's bloodwork is an essential component in the diagnosis of disease. Please call us to schedule an appointment if your cat is acting abnormal.
